Clarification on REFVTOC

Postby Viswanathchandru » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:13 pm

Dear all,

Not sure whether this is the right place to post this question. Please transfer this to other topic if this is not the right place. We have problem with one of our Volumes where the VTOC is full and its 100% utilized. So browsed the manual and tried to extend the VTOC and it got terminated with MAXCC=12 saying"
FREE SPACE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE NEW VTOC
and hence tried with REFVTOC and it ended with RC 08. and this failed in BUILIX step and again saying"
FREE SPACE IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE NEW VTOC
. Not sure how to proceed. Can anyone guide me on this. Please let me know if in case i need to provide more information. Apologies a ton if i'm wrong.

Thanks
Viswa

Hello,

Suggest you work with your storage management people. They know the dasd setup/rules for your system. We know nothing about your configuration and site standards.

One fairly easy way to get around this would be to move some amount of the data to another volume. This depends on how your dasd is managed. Deleting unneeded files could also help.
Hope this helps,
d.sch.
