concept of couple datasets

Postby tramuntana » Wed Jun 09, 2010 2:35 pm

With z/OS a running LPAR requires a few couple datasets, e.g. WLM and SYSPLEX. There are some basic rules to follow like each couple dataset should reside exclusively on a disk and the disks of a primary/alternate pair should be as independent in a physical way as possible.
My question is what happens exactly if a submit changes to a primary couple dataset. E.g. I install a new WLM policy. Is the alternate couple dataset kept in sync immediately? If so which task is responsible for that? Or is it the other way round - after a change in the primary the alternate isn't synced because in case of an error the systems needs a working backup? Or is the sync done with some delay to avoid problems?
I'm looking for the right place in the z/OS documentation to find the details or some other useful links or information to the topic.

SA22-7625 is Setting up a Sysplex and probably contains what you're looking for. Although you may need to consult SA22-7602, Planning Workload Management, as well.
