I just ran a test on SyncSort for z/OS 1.3 with your exact JCL and got RC=0 for both DATE1 and &DATE1. I can only assume that your are running an earlier release of the product which does not contain offset date support.

Would you suggest how to alter this job to suit "SYNCSORT FOR Z/OS 1.2.3.1R".

Suggest you have your product brought up to the current release.
