When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort

HM

when You clicked on
http://www.putty.org
or better on
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PuTTY

what did You expect to find ?
what did You understand ?
what was the original requirement ?

the usual logic chain is
define the problem
get a list of the tools that can be used to solve it
...
...

none of the above was done

topic will be locked shortly and moved to the stupid questions section
cheers

It is a tool which can perform ssh to Mainframe Unix Shell. It also can do SFTP. You can access Mainframe USS files/actual PS-PDS datasets with additional software.
What are you trying to do with it?

NOT EXACTLY

the wikipedia definition is better ...
PuTTY is a [...] terminal emulator, serial console and network file transfer application.

whatever wikipedia tells the TTY comes from TeleTYpe
google for teletype and You will get quite a bit of interesting archaelogic info

I accept my ignorance, I have used putty only for ssh and SFTP so mentioned them.
I should have known it can do a lot more.

Thanks,
