Hi Team,

We got the below error message on system. We managed to fix the issue by below link.

Error MSG:
ARC0744E MCDS COULD NOT BE BACKED UP, RC=0012, ARC0744E (CONT.) REAS=0016. MIGRATION, BACKUP, FRBACKUP, DUMP, AND ARC0744E (CONT.) RECYCLE HELD.

But still, we are not able to find reason code(REAS=0016) for the error and we used DSS service for MCDS backup. Anyone from this forum can help us ??

Try the ARC messages manual:

16
An error was encountered allocating the data set suggested by dsid. reascode identifies the error returned by the allocation routine.

So, I guess, you now need to look for the allocation routine's messages.

"The data movement function could not be successfully completed.
reascode describes the return code from the IDCAMS EXPORT or
DFSMSdss function."

Like to know reason code meaning.

The z/OS 2.1 Information Center has this for reason code 16:

16, 20,

and 24
See message ARC0500I or ARC0503E issued before this message was issued. The appropriate message indicates the dynamic allocation return and reason codes.

No it is Return Code=12 and,

but you are asking about the reason code 16 for that message id (ARC0774E) not return code 12.

I am able to locate the meaning of Return code:12(The data movement function could not be successfully completed.

DFSMSdss function) .But couldnt locate Reason code. I had search on MVS Authorized Assembler Services Guide(Dynamic Allocation part). But no use. Also, we are running z/OS 1.13 and surprised 'IBM Lookat is sunset from z/OS V2.1'.

Have you looked at the ARC messages as recommended in the manual? If not, why not?
