SORT utility

while using the SORT utility can i use the same file for input and the output?

If you are using DFSORT to do a sort, you can use the same file for input and output, although it's not recommended unless you have a backup of the input file. If you are using DFSORT to do a copy or a merge, you cannot use the same file for input and output.
