Postby sinmani » Mon Jun 04, 2012 3:23 pm

1. suppose I have a VSAM file. The file has headers and trailers.
Now the requirement is such that if there is only one Trailer present in entire file. No processing should be done.
How can we achieve this?

2. How to achieve the above objective using IDCAMS utility.

3. Can IDCAMs be used to delete a non VSAM PS file??

4. what do we bind?? Plan or Package?

5. What are the advantages of binding a package?

6. What is the difference between Plan, Package and collection?

7. Can we bind a collection??

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort

sinmani - WHAT is the point orf your second post here - it just repeats the first with no extra infomation. Even if there was extra information there is no need to repeat your first post.

I have never heard of VSAM file having headers and trailers
IDCAMS is not a utility for processing data - try your sort product.

(Edited to correct typos when typing in the dark!)
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.

Why did you repost my post? What a waste of time and effort on your part - and everyone who reads this thread. And, as far as I can see, you you have posted NO answers.

If you observe I have answered q no 4 and 6 But I guess u were too busy thinking about bashing me rather than noticing that.

And I did not reposted your post I quoted it to make myself clear whom I am addressing. Many forums have this rule.

If you look closely you will find that you posted your answers within the quoted text. As your original post did not include those answers itis not a true quote and, as you have now discovered, your answers got missed because they were 'hidden away'. And as for quoting my post to make clear who you were responding to it is fairly obvious that it was me as I am the only one to have joined in the thread - at least at that point. And I know of know forum, out of the 6 or 7 (or more?) that I am a member of, that insists on this quoting of previous posts. This dos not mean, of course, that it does not happen just that in these 6 mainframe forums it is not required and some people - including me - think that unnecessary quoting just gets in the way as was obvious when I missed your answers. If you had done a quote of each question that you had answered with your answer outside of the quote then that would have been perfectly acceptable.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.

Yes Thats right that till this point of time only you are the active person engaging in a discussion with me.
But when there are many people replying it becomes very important that you quote whom you are addressing.

My answers got hidden in my post because I forgot to highlist them in a different colour. Otherwise instead os posting the questions again its very easy that we use the same question posted earlier and use a different colour and highlight the answer there itself. Saves a lot of effort and space. I wanted to colour it but cdn't edit.

Anyways sorry for the inconvenience caused.

When you are replying you are, generally, replying to anyone who is reading, or participating in, the topic. You should not need to colour things - no good if someone iss colour-blind and can just make the page look a piece of artwork instead of a, supposedly, excahnge of professional knowledge.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
