As ever, it is not easy/possible to give much of an answer without more information.
Do you have a particular assigned role in the upgrading of FileAID? What is your role (ie, what has anyone actually told you to do for this?). For instance, if you are the Sysprog doing the install, you'd be checking different things than someone who has been assigned to check out that the package still does what its users expect of it.
I'd suspect the latter. So, find out how everyone is using it. Look at the "changes" section of documentation for the new version. Review against how people are using it. Flag up any problems there. Test for how people use it. Circulate a write-up, in your own words, of any new functionality. That sort of stuff.
How much do you test? Depends how big the release looks. If it is a major release, spend more time testing. If it is only a minor thing, spend less time testing.
