Method to check if a field contains any values

I am getting the user to insert values in fields in a map. I want to validate that the user has entered some value and has not left it blank. How to go about doing it?. The user is expected to enter alpha numeric data.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Have you not already answered your question?

If the field is presented to the user and comes back blank, they have not entered anything. . .

Possibly i misunderstand something.
