Define "mainframe administrator", please.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.

Mainframe administrator means...

wiser not invent Your own definitions ...

If You want to work in the mainframe world
You will have to do some researching and reading about the professional roles involved and their names .

for example starting from
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg246366.pdf
cheers
enrico
When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort

Did you read Enrico's post? Did you read the article to which he posted the link?

I would say that, in general, there is no such role as 'mainframe administrator' unlike in unix. You would have administrators in various subsets of the mainframe eg storage, database, operations etc.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
