I know this is volunteer-run, not money-making, but if it was the latter then there would have to be some strategy to try to keep hold of those post-and-go-awol people that I mention in Clearing the dead wood.

This is not a contradiction. This is a question about how/why/if to try to stop topics becoming "dead wood".

My own first suggestion, would it be possible on the "POST" input pages to for the first "screenload" to be "rules and tips" for posting. So it's all "in-yer-face" upfront, then you scroll down and do your input, maybe more people would put more and better info in to start with, and be less likely to disappear when asked for more informtion.

Might seem a bind for power users, but who is the board aimed at?
